When Taliban started banning girls from going schools in Swat back in 2009, she was among the girls who were banned from going to school and thus she's educational career affected at that time. She didn't go to school for many days when military operation was also about to start in the Swat valley back in 2009. At that time, she wrote a diary named "Gul Makai" for the British Broad Casting (BBC) website. She wrote her 15 episodes diary with very interesting end.
She wrote about the circumstances was going on in Swat valley in her diary. Later on, when peace was restored in Swat region, she appeared on many TV channels and her articles and statements were published by many local and international newspapers.
Except that diary, she also struggled for the peace restoration in Swat as well as she worked with other girls to get all of them back to school. She openly talked about the militants Taliban who were threatening the women in the region and especially they were against women's education. And Malala became a real problem for them for so many years.
